Fitness Gram 2016-2017
The Fitness gram is a comprehensive fitness assessment for youth. This test includes a variety of health-related physical fitness tests designed to assess cardiovascular fitness (aerobic capacity), muscle strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Scores from these assessments are compared to the Healthy Fitness Zone (HFZ); which are standards to determine students’ overall physical fitness and suggest areas for improvement when appropriate. The Fitness Gram test is also a report card that summarizes the child’s performance on each component of health-related fitness (aerobic capacity, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition). The assessments help understand the students’ needs around physical activity. The Fitness Gram will also help us as physical education teachers plan personal fitness programs for our students.
At PHS, we strive to teach/encourage students to be ACTIVE FOR LIFE! Physical activity must be maintained over time in order to continue to provide benefits. A major determinant of lifetime physical activity is gaining confidence in skills and behaviors associated with physical activity (self-efficacy). Fitness Gram Pre/Post assessments should be aimed at enhancing self-efficacy.
